How does Genesis find adoptive families?
Families adopting through Genesis meet regularly with our directors. In addition Genesis adoptive families volunteer and participate in Genesis activities, fundraisers and events. This allows the staff at Genesis to get to know each and every family on a personal level prior to placing a child with them.
Can I choose a family for my baby?
Absolutely. Genesis works closely with adoptive families to find that best home for your child. We can help you choose and meet families that meet your criteria as adoptive parents.
It will be too hard for me to choose a family. Can Genesis choose a family for my baby?
Yes. Genesis can choose a family for your baby.
What is an open adoption?
Open adoptions are becoming very popular. Open adoptions allow the birth parents to stay in touch with the child and adoptive family. As the birth parent you choose how much contact you would like to have with the baby after he or she is placed. Some birth parents choose to have visits. Others choose to have contact via phone, email, text message or social networking sites. The birth parent counselors will help you make that decision prior to placing and help you put this together as a legally binding document.
What is a confidential adoption?
A confidential adoption was previously referred to as a closed adoption. In a confidential adoption the birth parents choose to have no contact with the child or adoptive family. Often times this is because the birth parents decide it will be too hard on them emotionally to maintain contact. However you can still decide if you would like the child to contact you.
I would like to see the baby after it is born. Is that ok?
Absolutely. We will help you make an adoption plan that is right for you so you can have as much contact as you need with the baby after they are born.
How much contact can I have with my baby after they are placed?
That depends on you. You will decide how much contact you would like after the baby is placed. This is put down in your open adoption agreement and is a legally binding document.
What if I change my mind?
The staff at Genesis is here to support you with any decision that you make.
