The Genesis Learning Center was developed as a location where the Genesis House residents, and non-resident clients can participate in individual and group counseling sessions and attend free educational classes in prenatal care, infant care and parenting. These courses are designed to help you through your pregnancy, childbirth and parenting in a positive and supportive environment.

The Adoption Option
Informational session for pregnant women and their partners who want to learn more about adoption.
Helps prepare mothers (and fathers) for breastfeeding success. Topics include but are not limited to:
- Breastfeeding benefits and awareness
- Basic anatomy and physiology
- Getting “enough” breastmilk
- Proper positioning and latch-on
- Creating a breastfeeding plan
- Common concerns
- Maternal nutrition and medications
- Myths of breastfeeding
- Support system
Learn how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AED).
- Adult and infant/child CPR options available, including a two-year certification card from American Red Cross.
- Infant CPR: Free to expectant parents, $35 for others
- Adult, Child, and Infant CPR: Free to expectant parents; $50 for others
- Optional student workbooks, which include first aid, are available for all participants for $13.95 each.
First Aid Class
Learn to respond to common first aid emergencies, including burns; cuts; head injuries and poisonings, how to use Epi-Pen auto injector as well as an asthma inhaler, and more. Pediatric option available. Certification is available at a nominal fee; ask for details when registering.
New Beginnings Classes offer a wide variety of topics that address different parenting skills. You can attend the entire series to learn more about positive relationships topics such as emotional wellbeing, positive communication, your child's self-esteem.
Newborn Care Classes
Free newborn care classes explore the first moments and weeks with your baby. Topics include baby care basics, health and safety, soothing the crying infant and discovering the newborn's remarkable traits.
Six-class series, which includes topics such as food safety, menu planning, shopping and more. Each class includes food preparation and sampling.
This class is for individuals who are in recovery and are seeking additional emotional support during and after their pregnancy.
Potty Training Class
Learn how to teach your child to use the toilet, including recognizing signs of readiness and handling setbacks. This class is held on the first floor at the Genesis Center.
Preparing for Birth/Lamaze
Childbirth classes for women at least 31 weeks pregnant. Class includes Lamaze technique from a doula's perspective.
Includes: Exercises, relaxation, breathing, and what to do in the labor room. Support persons are encouraged, but not required, to attend.
Scrapbooking for Pregnant Women
An opportunity for expectant mothers to prepare a special keepsake album. You can bring photos with you or make pages that you can add photos later. Supplies are provided for free, except for scrapbook. Each participant may “buy” one new scrapbook for 15 Baby Bucks. (No Baby Bucks or bus tickets are given for this class.) This class is held on the first floor at the Genesis Center.
